Digging Deep At The Western States 100

I’ve been told that a 100-mile ultramarathon can be a one day journey of every possible emotion a person can conjure. My first Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run this last Saturday confirmed that for me. I was brought to my knees, both physically and spiritually, but was able to rise again and again thanks to a new source of will and the support of my crew and friends. One run, two sunrises, and an infinite dose of appreciation for this race, this sport, and the amazing community behind it.

Palin: I’d Beat Obama In A Run

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she’d come out ahead if she went one-on-one with fellow jogger President Barack Obama in a long run, according to an interview published online Tuesday. “I betcha I’d have more endurance,” she told Runner’s World magazine. “My one claim to fame in my own little internal running circle is a sub-four marathon” in Anchorage, she said, referring to her 2005 sprint in the Humpy’s Marathon in which she beat the four-hour mark by 24 seconds.

Coach Joe EnglishYou are a runner. You define yourself as a runner. It’s your sport, your thing. Everyone at the office notes that you scramble out the front door in a pair of shorts and running shoes at lunch, even when its raining. They talk about the fact that you’re one of those “fit” people, perhaps with a bit of jealously in their tone. You think about your races and are probably asked often, “so what’s your next one” and you’re only too eager to answer the question. In fact, if you get
