There was a time when Preston Curtis might have experienced social anxiety in the moments leading up to Tuesday’s Yankee Homecoming Road Race in Newburyport. That’s because the 42-year-old Gloucester resident plans to take his position at the starting line barefoot. No sneakers, no Vibrams, no minimalist running shoes. Skin on pavement is Curtis’ preferred method of transportation.

GoLite Footwear launched a new marketing campaign earlier this month called “Rocks Hurt”. A full-page print ad in the July/August issue of Trail Runner magazine kicked off the program featuring a scientist holding the Tara Lite trail running shoe in a laboratory setting. The ad copy referenced the significant research which had been conducted in order to reach the conclusion that rocks hurt.
